The Goetz-Griffin House
2603 Francis Street
This house is an excellent example of the Eclectic style of architecture favored by St. Joseph’s middle and upper classes following the Victorian era. Built in 1914 by Albert Goetz, son of Goetz brewery founder, M. K. Goetz, it features prairie and craftsman elements. The only addition to the home was the colonial revival style front porch in 1965.
The Goetz family occupied the dwelling until the 1950’s when it was sold to Mr. & Mrs. Fred Griffin. The Griffin family founded Brown Transfer and Storage, which is the oldest business still in operation in St. Joseph. The current owners, Gary & Jennifer Higgs, have done extensive renovations to the home during their ownership, as well as acquiring historic landmark status.
