The Feltenstein Home
624 N. 25th Street
This lovely combination Prairie-style/Arts & Crafts brick home was built in 1914 for the Dr. Feltenstein family.
The Feltensteins immigrated from Europe and settled in St. Joseph, having promised loved ones they would only
to venture as far as civilization existed in America. The family prospered in St. Joseph, becoming doctors, lawyers,
and boarding home owners. This home represents the wealth that was obtained within one generation.
The home cost $7,000 to build and boasts five staircases and four fireplaces. It has an atrium on the south side
and bay window in the north parlor. It also has a wonderful built-in cabinet in the dining room.
The entrance to the Feltenstein manor is a celebration of leaded, beveled glass which continues through the
main hall to the pocket doors leading into the dining room and the window at the landing of the grand staircase.
