MISSION STATEMENT
Preserving, maintaining, and developing awareness of St. Joseph’s rich architectural history!
![]()
St. Joseph is brimming with magnificent historic homes, churches, and commercial buildings, many of which are recognized as the finest in the Midwest. These architectural gems were constructed primarily during the city's "Golden Age" - a period of rapid growth and enormous wealth in the latter part of the 19th century. Outstanding examples of the Italianate, Second Empire, and Queen Anne building styles reflect the boundless optimism of that bygone era, and make St. Joseph a living, outdoor museum of architectural history.
Regrettably, much of St. Joseph's architectural legacy is deteriorating. It is not too late to reverse the pattern of decay. Together we can restore our historic buildings and neighborhoods; and in doing so, recapture the spirit of St. Joseph's glorious past.
